Sohar hospital

Sohar Hospital under the Ministry of Health, Sultanate of Oman was set up in 1997 and is a 408 bed tertiary care hospital of wilayat Sohar. It aims to cater to the population of North Batinah Region extending from Suweiq to Shinaz. It is a multispeciality hospital having a fully equipped Adult ICU, Paediatric ICU, CCU apart from facilities for Dialysis. The Operative facilities consists of Laproscopic surgeries in Gyaenecology, Abdominal surgeries as well as Arthroscopy and Endoscopic Sinus Surgery. It is a teaching hospital for students of Oman Medical College (second medical college in The Sultanate of Oman).

Sohar

Sohar is a city located in the Al Batinah Region of the Sultanate of Oman, 240 kilometers north-west of the capital Muscat.Sohar was an ancient capital of Oman. Many believe Sohar to be the birthplace of Sindbad the Sailor. It has a rich sailing history. Sohar is traditionally a fishing town and has a fish souk.The town is close to ancient copper mines and Jebel Akhdar (the Green Mountain), the tallest mountain in Oman. It is also fairly close to the fort-towns of Ibri, Nakhl, Rustaq and Nizwa.The Sohar Industrial Port Company (SIPC) operates the Sohar port, which was established in 2002 and is located east of the Strait of Hormuz. The Port of Sohar is not a free trade zone, unlike the Jebel ali free zone in the United Arab Emirates, located about 250 kilometers north-west of Sohar.

Fort of Sohar

Located in Harat Al Hajara in Sohar town. Dated back to 179 A.H., It was renovated, to its present shape, in the (Eighth - Ninth century A.H.) (14th A.H. - 15th A.D.). During the reign of Imam / Nasser bin Murshid Al Ya'arubi, he was able to conquer and expel the Portuguese from this castle. Sohar castle remained as administration Centre for the ruling Al Busaid dynasty. The Ministry restored the Fort in 1985 and used it as a museum in 1993.
